George Orwell's Animal Farm
Animal Farm by George Orwell was first published in 1945 as a political allegory of the Russian Revolution and is by far one of the best attempts to criticize a totalitarian regime through the means of literature. Through literature and the power of words, George Orwell wanted to help others to become aware of things that are happening in the world that was obvious for him. Therefore, Animal farm was one of Orwell's attempts to portray the Russian Revolution through an easily comprehensible Animal fable which is popular in western literature. In an article/essay that George Orwell wrote in 1947 called "Why I Write", Orwell mentioned: "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it. It seems to me nonsense, in a period like our own, to think that one can avoid writing of such subjects".[4]
